Formada Studio is the design line of Formada3D, Melbourne. The workshop makes the practical things; the studio makes the pieces we would want in our own homes.
How we work
Everything starts as geometry. We draw the lamps in code, so a pleat count, a fin height or the drift of a stack is a number we can argue about and change, and every shade is verified before it prints — wall thickness, overhang, the fit of the base ring — because a lamp that needs supports or glue is not finished.
Then it prints, slowly. A shade is one continuous eighteen-to-twenty-hour pass on a single machine in our Melbourne workshop. We do not stock finished lamps; yours is started when you order it, photographed on the printer, checked under a light, and packed with a signed card.
The materials are plant-based PLA and PETG, chosen for how they take light: translucent amber and frost for glow, matte stone tones for shadow. Nothing is painted or coated. What you see is the material.
What we won’t do
- Sell a design we haven’t test-printed and lived with.
- Show a retouched product. Reef Diagrid is photographed; every image still labelled a render is exactly that, and is replaced the moment that lamp comes off the printer.
- Claim hardware we don’t supply. The light source is yours to choose; we tell you exactly what fits.
